![]() ![]() The Coolidge who emerges in these pages is a model of character, principle, and humility-rare qualities in Washington, then as now. To read this volume is to understand the tragic extent to which historians underrate President Coolidge. This expanded and annotated volume, edited by Coolidge biographer Amity Shlaes and authorized by the Coolidge family, is the definitive edition of the text that presidential historian Craig Fehrman calls "the forgotten classic of presidential writing." In fact, such a model awaits them, if only they turn their eyes to their own past . . . to America's thirtieth president, Calvin Coolidge.Ĭoolidge's masterful autobiography offers urgent lessons for our age of exploding debt, increasingly centralized power, and fierce partisan division. Today Americans of all backgrounds are on the hunt for a different political model. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Son of a trickster book![]() ![]() ![]() Robinson punctuates the action with tiny chapters that, in a more conventional fantasy novel, would offer background on the story’s mythology. By the time Robinson throws cannibalistic river otters at you, nothing prevents them from being both utterly terrifying and extremely funny at the same time. Robinson skillfully blends wacky, over-the-top characters that would be at home in an edgy sitcom with a supernatural horror plot that draws on indigenous beliefs. ![]() His life is so crazy that when a raven starts talking to him, Jared barely has the mental space to worry about it. He keeps himself drunk or stoned just to maintain some level of calm. His parents are separated and strung out, and his mom is downright dangerous (an odd mix of neglectful and overly protective). The first book of a trilogy, Eden Robinson’s Son of a Trickster focuses on the tumultuous everyday life of Jared, a sixteen-year-old struggling to survive his family. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Todd mcfarlane spawn angela![]() ![]() This was how the likes of Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Dave Sim and Frank Miller came to each write an issue of Spawn. Deciding to take what the critics were saying about the writing to heart, Todd McFarlane hired what many considered to be the best writers working in comics at the time. Spawn was no exception, as the initial issues threw in a lot of half-formed ideas that struggled to come together into a cohesive whole. When Gaiman came in for a single issue he introduced a handful of characters and changing Spawn’s world forever after.Īlthough the Image Comics titles like Spawn broke sales records, critics weren’t impressed when it came to the actual stories the comics told. Todd McFarlane’s Spawn #1 debuted in 1992, but it wasn’t until eight issues later when the character’s mythology truly began to take shape thanks to acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments Renee ahdieh the beautiful series![]() the pacing is pretty consistent up until the 80%ish mark and then utter chaos descends (i went and got an ebook because i thought my copy was missing chapters - the massive skips and time jumps between scenes and just the overall disjointedness of the ending is out of control - i still feel like im missing at least 5 chapters worth of story) ![]() the set up for the story is for arjun to find a healer and pippa to find celine, but they never actually actively do this (i understand that RA is trying to get the reader to know arjun and pippa better, and i enjoyed seeing them in the land of fae, but it felt weird to ignore the plot that was introduced in the beginning) taking the two old main characters and making them feel completely different (celine and bastian get major downgrades personality-wise in this, for the whole two pages they make an appearance lol) Things that caught me off guard and how i feel about them: - making two side characters now be the main characters (but i ended up loving arjun and pippa, so honestly, not the biggest deal) ![]() ![]() ![]() This wasnt the book i was expecting, there are a lot of decisions RA made that im not quite sure i understand, but i still enjoyed this overall. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments Punjabi widows book![]() ![]() Reaching 10 hours and 34 minutes on our streaming video test, the Samsung lasted pretty long considering its higher-performance components and AMOLED display, which draw more power than those designed to sip power.
